You all know that I (Nibbles Skribbles) recently moved into a new home. We have received some fun housewarming gifts from friends and family (We especially appreciated Home Improvement store gift cards, the pre-made meals, beer & wine and the offers of help)! In addition to us moving, 2 of my dear friends also moved to new homes, and I have several friends and family members who are planning to move in the near future – so Housewarming gifts are on my mind! Today, I thought I’d share a few fun ideas I found online, plus a few of my go-to gifts!
- Beverages – We love beer and wine, and enjoy trying new-to-us varieties. Even if the person needing to be warmed doesn’t drink, they may enjoy a good bottle of wine for company, or a fun variety of their favorite flavored water, soda/pop or other beverage of choice. Knowing what someone likes, and gifting it to them is always a win!
- Plants – We moved from a small townhouse with no windows and no outdoor space to a home with tons of natural light and a huge yard. Having beautiful plants inside and out is a fun treat for me! One of my favorites was from my Grandmother – she used clippings to make me a houseplant that was grown from one that belonged to her Grandmother. So it’s a fun addition to my home plus it has a history – which is sweet!
- Cleaning Supplies – This is kind of silly, but it’s practical. Especially for someone moving into their first home. My go-to for someone moving out on their own for the first time is a plunger, toilet bowl brush and basket of some of my favorite cleaners. I feel like these are things that people moving off on their own for the first time don’t think about needing, so are very appreciated!
- Yard Games – If the new homeowner has a yard or likes to entertain, some outdoor activities are always a win! Corn hole, Ladder Golf, Yard Dice, Horseshoes – all great gifts! My brother made us a ladder golf game painted in Vikings colors – it’s perfect for us and will get tons of use!
- Gift Certificates – Moving is expensive. When you move into a new house, you often need and want new things or have projects to tackle. Gift cards to home improvement stores, home decorating stores or even the local pizza place go a long way to making some of those wishes a possibility!
- Custom Piece – A fun personalized decorative item is always a fun gift! A welcome mat with their name, a sign with the date they bought their home, or address labels/address stamp featuring their new address. Something to help them remember this exciting time!
So there you have it, a few fun gift ideas for the next person you know who moves into a new home!
Great ideas, Manda. Thanks for giving us a list.
