It’s hard to believe Jen, Jen Maddocks Designs, hasn’t always been with the Studio. In her relatively short time, she’s quickly become a favorite Designer and Challenge leader. Her monthly Bricolage Challenge has all of us thinking outside the box and trying new techniques.
bri•co•lage ˌbrēkōˈläZH (in art or literature) construction or creation from a diverse range of available things that happen to be on hand, something constructed or created from a diverse range of available things.

Next week I end my intensive cardiac rehab program. I am looking forward to this chapter of my life coming to a close. I’m looking forward to going back to work full time and getting back to “normal”. I am extremely happy with the progress I have made on my health and plan to continue with this new lifestyle. One of the biggest things I’ve learned over the last 9 weeks has been to trust the process. When things seem utterly hopeless or like they can’t possibly change, just keep going and trust the process because it will bring change. So the word I chose for this month is trust.

Last October, at only 42, Jen had a heart attack. One of her arteries was 95% blocked, and a stent was put in. This rocked her foundation. Jen is not just a Designer, but a wife, mother of two beautiful, strong, amazing teens and a Christian. The journey back to health was not just physical, but mental as well. Heart attacks don’t happen at 42. They don’t happen to women. Wives. Mothers. Christians. Until they do. They can turn your whole life upside down.
Jen fought. She fought to get physically health. Despite being an active, young person, she still needed to relearn her body and rebuild after her heart attack. It is not an easy process. She used her faith, bible verses, her family, her husband and her art to pull her through. In this time her collection Dear Heart is the visual result of her struggle.
Now, with rehab ended and a new lease on life, Jen is celebrating her 43rd birthday with a BANG! This is one to truly revel in another year. It is not just a birthday, not this year. This year it’s an affirmation of life, faith and happiness. This year is starting with a Happy Day, and diving right into a Happy Year!
