Hello fellow shutterbugs! Let’s have some fun with our photo’s. Lightroom is fantabulous for getting a quick & easy look for our pictures. Today I’m interested in a vintage look for a vintage car.
This is one of my all-time favorite cars, a Citroën 2CV (aka a Deux chevaux). In Dutch it’s a lelijke eend or “ugly duck”. I took this photo in Amsterdam on a road trip. I looooooove road trips!
- Click on the Edit icon to open the Edit Panel
We’re going to work a little bit backwards, and slide down to edit Color first.
- Pop open the Color panel by clicking the teeny-tiny arrow next to Color
- Slide the Temp slider towards yellow to get a warmer feel for your photo
- Slide the Saturation slider way to the left to reduce color
Old photo’s are less clear. They’ve faded over time. Scroll down & pop open the Effects Panel to duplicate these effects on your photo.
- Pop open the Effects Panel
- Slide the Clarity Slider to the left
- Slide the Dehaze Slider to the left
You can skip this part if you’re already happy. I’m going to do a little Color Grading to my photo to add a hint of sepia.
- Pop open the Color Grading panel
You can check your progress as you color grade by holding down the Eye icon as you make adjustments.
This is the fun part!
- Click, hold & drag the tiny circle within each of the Color Grading settings
- I dragged towards orange for my Sepia tone
- You can also grab the tiny dot outside of the circle to adjust the color (it slides all the way around for any color)
- The Blending & Balance sliders help you adjust your tone, Adobe has a really loooooooong post on how/why/what
Once you are happy with the color of your photo, it’s time for the final edit.
- Scroll up to the Light Panel
- I’ve adjustED to add light & exposure to my photo to give it a more faded feel
- Exposure = +.37
- Contrast = -15
- Highlights = +15
- Shadows = +20
- Whites = +12
- Blacks = +56
And that’s it! A quick look at my before & after.
