Saturday Ramona texted: “Wanna go to an Easter Market?”
Boy, did I! I have been in Germany close to eight years, and not once have I been to an Easter Market. I’ve been dying to go see the amazing hand-painted, bedazzled, Easter eggs… and the flowers, food and goods. I love any market, but an Easter Market sounds especially delightful.
Sunday turned out to be a perfect day, warm, sunny, beautiful. We packed Dane and her two huskies (Husky’s, Böblingen and Ice Cream) into her car (huskies shed like crazy, they were not going in my baby!) and drove out to Besigsheim, about 40 minutes away. It’s been a while that I’ve really gotten out for a day of sight-seeing and touristing my current home country. I had my camera and my new prime lens ready to document the occasion.
And then. Sigh. Right as we got to the market my battery died. I was flabbergasted. How was that possible? I have not been taking a lot of pictures, the last months have been spent working, wishing for snow, and therapy for my back. I haven’t done a lot of anything. How could the battery be dead? And then. Then I remembered. Cole. Cole is taking photography. Cole has been using my camera. Cole drained my battery. It may be my camera, but I’m not above blaming Cole.
And Besigheim was adorable. It’s a gorgeous little city. Walled. Cobblestoned. Fachwerk houses. Flowers. A river. A tower! With a view of hills covered in grapevines. Oh I could cry right now at all the beautiful things I saw that aren’t in my camera today. I am definitely going back, it was that adorable. Plus, Dane loved the little park and we saw another park just down the road that looked equally fun to plan in. And the restaurant we stopped at for a snack and a beer was adorable. Old world, in a fachwerk building, bathrooms with ceilings barely taller than me, gorgeous beam work and amazing traditional German food.
I need to take Dave for a date, and my camera. My camera needs a date.
Haha, it looks like you had a gorgeous time and you still took enough beautiful pictures! Langos is our tradition at Xmas time, but I guess we’d love it for Easter too 🙂
