This morning I woke up to quiet.  Please note, this is very unusual in my house.  There is always noise going on somewhere in my house when I wake up.  Usually in my room, next to my bed, with 2 (or more) kids poking each other, pinching each other, and yelling, in a stage-whisper of course, to “BE QUIET! MOM IS SLEEPING!”

Not today.  Today I opened my eyes, and nothing.  I luxuriated in the peace & quiet, I looked out the windows at the stark grey sky, decorated beautifully with the frosted white branches of our cherry, plum & random nut tree.  I will really miss those trees when we move. I finally looked at the clock and was shocked to see it was already past 9:30 a.m.  I haven’t slept that late in forever!  I panicked, because why did I hear no children?  And I panicked because I was late to work.  Thankfully, I work for a very understanding boss.

I got up & shuffled downstairs, and it was still quiet.  I found the little two sitting at the dining room table, their advent calendars down off the chimney, smackdab in front of them, staring at door(s) number one with big eyes.  After two weeks of waiting, very, very long waiting, it was finally time to see what was behind door number one!

I splurged this year and got Dane the much-desired Star Wars Lego Advent Calendar.  His joy, giddy anticipation and total enthusiasm to find the Darth Maul Santa has been well worth the extra Euro’s.  Tess got the Monster High Advent Calendar, and both kids couldn’t be happier.  Even Cole didn’t complain with his non-Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar.  Dane practically shook with excitement as he found door number one, and then carefully pried it open to reveal the lego bricks to build a small space ship!  Tess had to put aside her own treasure and help him build it.  It’s even now sitting proudly on the display poster, with Dane anxiously trying to guess what is behind door number two, and wondering if it’s bed time yet.

I love Advent Calendars!
