On Monday night it froze. Our gorgeous warm temperatures dipped below 0°c and a little frost dusted the rooftops. My sourdough starter was not happy. I’m again working hard to make it bubble. Making sourdough is not as easy as it looks.
Outside though the sun shone bright & cheery. I had plans for another social distancing walk with my friend. I put on my warm furry boots, my thickest sweatshirt and drove five minutes down the road to meet her. She wanted to see my Scottish Highlanders too.
I had to resist, and it was really, really hard, to urge to walk up & hug her like a mad woman. It’s awesome to just see & talk to a friend, but the 6 ft. apart is torture. It’s possible a little tear escaped our eyes. It’s amazing how the simple pleasure of seeing a friend can be emotionally overwhelming.
We brushed off our emotions, and walked over to the coo’s. The little one that had made its way into the world the other day was tucked away in a shelter with its mom. The other babies were out in the bigger pasture with mom & dad. Though. The big bull refused to smile for the camera, or even look my way. Brat. I’ll have to return to get his mug on film. Darn.
The coo’s were in a lazy mood. Just laying in the sun, soaking it up. We decided to explore the woods behind Farmer Johns’ fields and discovered an absolutely delightful new world.
Unlike the woods by house, 4 kilometers away, these woods had mossy floors & tree stumps everywhere. With the bright sunlight filtering through, it was like walking through a fairy tale. Fun fact, there is an actual Fairy Tale road in Germany. It’s called the Märchenstraße, and it starts not far from my home. It follows the path of the Grimm Brothers & their tales.
We came out the other side of that little stretch of forest, into bright warm sunlight & another farmers fields. While it’s obviously still “my” part of Germany it was also completely different, fresh & new. Sabine & I both marveled at the beauty all around us. The world may be very different these days, but mother Earth is shining. She is full of promise & hope. We will be okay.
Awesome photos once again, you mention how cold it was there, well today I was swimming in the ocean near where we are holed up in our caravan due to Covid19. We got caught between moving all our house sits are cancelled so we have had to move into the caravan, it is not ideal however better than nothing.I also want to say I loved the email that had all the Covid greeting from the various Designer’s including yourself.I will be really looking forward to the Lockdown weekend this weekend. I find the days so long there is only so much you can do in the caravan. I do have my bike and also do alot of walks and swimming, today it was 32c even though we should be getting much cooler temps it seems summer is still around us. Hopefully I will get to say hello in Lockdown.
I keep thinking of you Christine. I hope you are hanging in there. I’m so happy you can go swimming! Here all the pools are closed, and I’m worried the lakes will be closed as well. I so love to swim. I think you & I are very alike despite the great distance between us.
